GUS DUR

DIED AND MOURNED

DIED

Abdurrahman Wahid, who was often referred to by his nickname Gus Dur, ruled Indonesia between 1999 and 2001.
He was the first elected president after the fall of the 32-year Suharto regime in 1998.
Wahid had been suffering from a number of medical problems in recent years. He was a diabetic and was known to have had a series of strokes.

"Gus Dur just passed away," Lukman Edy from Wahid's National Awakening Party told reporters.
"We lost a great statesman who had dedicated all of his life to the nation, struggling for the sake of those suffering from injustice," his brother Solahuddin Wahid told The Associated Press.
According to local television reports Wahid died of heart failure at 18.45 indonesian time

He had been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit of Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital for the last week. Doctors said the former president, who had long been confined to a wheelchair, unable to see and suffering kidney problems, died during surgery to remove a blood clot in his heart.

During his political life, Wahid was often unpredictable and outspoken, putting together unlikely political coalitions, changing policies to appease various factions and battling the establishment in the world's fourth-most-populous nation. But he was a wily deal-maker and had the respect of most groups in his diverse nation, from rebellious students and liberals to powerful army generals and former presidents Suharto and B.J. Habibie.

Wahid's power base came from his leadership of the 30-million-member Nahdlatul Ulama, a conservative Muslim organization founded in 1926 by his grandfather, Hasyim Ashari. But Wahid, who said he did not want to turn non-Muslims into second-class citizens, had liberal views on religion that often put him at odds with the Islamic establishment.

Though he had never run for political office before, Wahid was elected president Oct. 20, 1999, by the national assembly in a close vote over Megawati Sukarnoputri, the daughter of Indonesia's first president. Her father, Sukarno, had held the last free election in 1955. In a gesture of reconciliation, Wahid made Megawati his vice president.

Wahid took over a scandal-ridden, corrupt government and a country beset by economic depression, separatist movements in the regions of Aceh and Irian Jaya, and a disgraced military whose widespread human rights abuses had aroused international condemnation.

After nearly five decades of dictatorial rule by Sukarno and Suharto and 17 months of chaotic transition under Habibie, Wahid moved quickly to strengthen civilian control over the military, appointing the first civilian defense minister since independence in 1949. He also took steps to root out corruption and nepotism in the government. Leading by inspiration more than by decree, he was conciliatory and tolerant.

Wahid offered autonomy to the rebellious region of Aceh, set up economic ties with Israel and worked to strengthen relations with China. He reached out to East Timor, whose people had voted in August 1999 to sever links with Indonesia in favor of independence, and scurried through the region looking for funds to support his country's economic recovery.

Wahid had a wry sense of humor but was often perceived as a bumbler in important affairs, and his presidency stumbled. He was impeached by parliament in 2001 over charges of corruption and incompetence and replaced by Megawati.

Affectionately known as Gus Dur, a nickname that combines an honorific title with a shortened form of his name, Abdurrahman Wahid was born Aug. 4, 1940, in East Java. His father, Wahid Hasyim, was a prominent Muslim leader who died in a car accident when Gus Dur was 13 and was honored by a huge turnout at his funeral.

"Seeing all those people weeping and saying goodbye to him like that," he told author V.S. Naipaul years later, "the impression on me was like this: Is there anything greater in life than being loved by so many people?"

In the 1960s, Wahid went abroad to study literature and social sciences at the University of Baghdad in Iraq and Islamic law at Al Azhar University in Cairo. He later studied at the University of Toronto. He returned to Jakarta, the Indonesian capital, in 1974 and began writing a column for Tempo magazine. He was elected chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama in 1984.

His liberalism annoyed Suharto, who ruled for 32 years until forced from power in May 1998 by street protests. And Wahid's willingness to defend human rights peeved the Indonesian military. His accusation that Habibie, Suharto's successor, had appointed five racist, anti-Chinese ministers to the Cabinet in 1998 brought anonymous threats by phone. But Wahid refused to be silenced.

In February 1998, Wahid suffered the first of two strokes and fell into a coma. Brain surgery saved his life but left him nearly blind. Even as president, Wahid assigned four aides to guide him virtually everywhere, and he gave speeches off the cuff because he could not read documents.

A year before his election, he was asked at a conference of Chinese businesspeople how he would like his epitaph to read. Wahid said: "Here lies a humanist."

MOURNED

Thousands of mourners have gathered in Indonesia to pay their respects to the former president, Abdurrahman Wahid, who died on Wednesday aged 69.

A memorial service for Wahid will be held later on Wednesday, led by the current president, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Wahid will then be buried in his East Java hometown, Jombang, where about 5,000 supporters have gathered to welcome his motorcade.

His supporters have held vigils at mosques, churches, temples and schools.

Messages of condolence also poured in from abroad.

The White House said Wahid was "a pivotal figure" in Indonesia's transition to a free government, who "will be remembered for his commitment to democratic principles, inclusive politics, and religious tolerance".

The ceremony has finished and during the ceremony all of the mourners followed it quietly, but when Gus Dur's body wanted to buried some of them was yelling "Allahu Akbar! Allahu Akbar!" that means "O God Almighty!"After the ceremony, all of the mourners wanted to kiss Gus Dur's graveyard.

once again i wanna said goodbye the greatest indonesian politician.

new band(?)2

3oh!3 like owl city this band maybe "just famous" nowadays. for me, i just knew 3oh!3 and love it their song called "don't trust me".

3oh!3 with their formation Sean Foreman and Nathaniel Motte met in a physics class while attending university of colorado. that's the first sign that 3oh!3 will rock on the world.

After playing the Denver date of Warped Tour 2007, 3OH!3 signed on for all venues of Warped Tour 2008. Their song "Punkb*tch" is featured on the Warped Tour 2008 Tour Compilation. The band has also played at national festivals such as Bamboozle Left. 3OH!3 are known for their energetic shows.

The band then headlined the 2009 Alternative Press Tour across the U.S. with Family Force 5, The Maine, A Rocket to the Moon, and Hit The Lights. They contributed an original theme song titled "Sex on the Beach" for MTV's The Real World: Cancun. The band performed in Panama City Beach, Florida for MtvU's Spring Break in March 2009, which they opened for upcoming rapper Sid Hyet.

3OH!3 again joined the Warped Tour in 2009. 3OH!3 also played at EndFest in Sacramento CA with such acts as The White Tie Affair. 3OH!3 was also a part of Kiss Concert '09 (Kiss 108) at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, MA, Kiss The Summer Hello 2009 @ Coca-Cola Field in Buffalo, NY, June 3, 2009, along with Kevin Rudolf, The White Tie Affair, The Veronicas, The Ting Tings, & Elliott Yamin.

3OH!3 wrote an anthem for Major League Baseball's Colorado Rockies. The music video was shot at the Ogden Theater in Denver and airs during broadcasts on FSN Rocky Mountain.

3OH!3's sophomore album on Photo Finish Records, Want, was released on July 8, 2008. It reached #44 on the Billboard 200. "Don't Trust Me" has been controversial, as some have accused the band of misogyny.

Advertisements for the show Candy Girls use the song "Starstrukk".

In the popular television series The Hills, episode #61 entitled "You'll Never Have This", uses the song "Don't Trust Me".

Also, in the television series The Vampire Diaries, episode #3, entitled "Friday Night Bites", uses the song "Starstrukk".

The music video for "Holler Til You Pass Out" takes place at Mesa Elementary and Fairview High School in Boulder. The music video for "Starstrukk" has been released on the band's MySpace and Facebook pages, as well as YouTube and several other networking sites. On their official Twitter(Nat - NAT3OH3, Sean - kidquizine) , they announced that they are planning to record a song with Lil Jon. On the Warped Tour 2009 and before, they performed a new song called "Hit It Again", which is about wanting another chance with a girl.

In May 2009, they created a remix of Family Force 5's single "Get Your Back Off The Wall", for the album Dance or Die With A Vengeance.

On the July 15th, 2009 stop of the Vans Warped Tour in Scranton, PA Sean injured his leg while on stage and needed stitches. The band was scheduled to sign at the Music Saves Lives booth that day and only Nat was able to attend. On the July 18, 2009 stop of Warped Tour in Uniondale, New York, they were joined by Lil Jon on stage to perform with them. On August 28, 2009, they released a remix of their second single, "Starstrukk", featuring Katy Perry on their MySpace page. The song was released on iTunes on September 8, 2009.

The song "Starstrukk" is used during a preview of the movie "Couples Retreat" starring Vince Vaughn.

The "Starstrukk" remix with Katy Perry is in both the trailer and beginning of the movie When In Rome.

In October 2009 they toured with Basshunter in his Now Your Gone: World Tour.

new band(?)1

well maybe some people still don't know this band, but maybe some people have heard and even fell in love with this band!. OWL CITY, yep thats the band with a great potential, and great synthpop and electronica genres, they'll move the world of music and shock them.

Owl City is an American synthpop musical project. It consists of Adam Young. Young started out making music in his parents' basement in Owatonna, Minnesota, which he claims is a result of his insomnia.disco and European electronic music. While his song structures resemble '80s synthpop groups like New Order and The Human League, his synths lend more from '90s rave music. After two independent albums, Owl City gained mainstream popularity from the 2009 major label debut album Ocean Eyes, which spawned the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 #1 hit single "Fireflies". "Fireflies" topped the US and Canadian charts and became the most-downloaded song on iTunes in the US, and the album Ocean Eyes reached the top ten on the US album charts and topped the US electronic charts. Ocean Eyes also reached Amazon MP3's top 10 most downloaded album list. By December 2009, it was certified Gold in the United States.

alicia keys new album

beside coldplay, alicia keys is gonna release an album called "the element of freedom". A good news for alicia's fans who has facebook that alicia will release her new album exclusively on facebook, the biggest social network in the world. the fans also will be able to stream the album free of charge (though they won’t be able to download digitial copies).

Now, it isn’t unheard of for artists to debut albums and songs through the web, but this has long been an area dominated by MySpace. MySpace still sees its share of exclusives, but in the last few months Facebook has been getting an increasing amount of attention from artists. We’ve recently seen Chamillionaire and Sharkira release their new music videos exclusively though Ustream/Facebook, and there have been a number of big-name concerts streamed through the site as well.

coldplay new album

this month (december 2009) coldplay is gonna release a new album titled "prospect march". this is their second album in the last 2 years. The vocalist told BBC's Steve Lamacq that the band indeed have a new album, an EP and a greatest hits on the pipeline although they just released their fourth studio album "Viva la Vida" in June.

With the release of the new studio album and the greatest hits compilation, Coldplay will fulfill their contract obligation with their label EMI.
